YOUNG rugby players from Huntly turned out for the Three Counties U16 team.

The side comprises boys from The Gordon Schools, Keith Grammar, Milne's High, Elgin Academy, Elgin High School, Lossiemouth High School, Nairn and Forres Academies.

Their run in the Three Counties Cup came to an end in the semi-final when they went down 57-17 in the semi-final at Galashiels.

It was an exciting game with some excellent rugby played by both sides but in the end, Galashiels proved too strong.

Despite the defeat, it was a memorable day for all involved.

Due to water-logging at Galashiels Academy, the match was played at the famous Netherdale home of Gala RFC, on the pitch that has hosted France, London Scottish and the All Blacks and produced Scotland stars such as Gregor Townsend and Chris Paterson.

Before the match, the boys took time to take a walk through rugby history, looking at the trophies, memorabilia, shirts and a hall of fame in the clubhouse.

Stephen Beadle, who travelled with the team said: "All involved are very proud of the boys' achievements."
