THEY are the people who look after us in our time of need – whether that be a life-changing event like the birth of a new child, a medical emergency or caring for a family member through illness.
Healthcare professionals are on the frontline each and every day, dealing with whatever and whoever comes their way.
We rely on the NHS day in, day out but how often do we stop and say a big "thank you" to those who really do care?
The Moray & Banffshire Heroes healthcare professional of the year category, sponsored by M J Housden Optician in Forres, is a chance to recognise the wonderful work that takes place in our hospitals, medical practices and other healthcare facilities.
So if you know somebody who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their role as a healthcare professional, let us know by nominating them today. You could be a patient, a family member or even a colleague.
Another worthy category in the Moray & Banffshire Heroes awards is community champion of the year, which is still available to sponsor.
This award is looking for someone who gives their time to help the people around them without being asked, or makes a significant contribution to their community that will leave a lasting legacy.
To nominate somebody you feel deserves recognition for their service to the community – or any of the 12 categories – fill in the nomination form in the paper and post it back to us at Moray & Banffshire Heroes, SPP Media, New Century House, Inverness, IV1 1FG or email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
You can also nominate your Moray & Banffshire Heroes online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/MorayHeroes2019
The deadline for nominations is midnight on Friday, March 1.
Once we've received all your nominations, our carefully selected judging panel will draw up a shortlist of nominations from each category.
The shortlist, along with the stories of all the nominees for each award, will be published in a special supplement at the end of March.
Readers can then vote for the person they think is the most outstanding choice in each category.
Once the votes have been tallied, the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Mansefield Hotel in Elgin on Thursday, May 9.
The judges will also announce one more award – the hero of heroes, which is a special award presented to one of the 12 category winners on the night.
All those who have been shortlisted will be invited to attend the award ceremony and there will be prominent post-event coverage in our newspapers.
