Investigation after dog attack on sheep

Officers are appealing for information after a suspected dog attack on sheep near Cornhill.

POLICE are appealing for information after what is understood to be a dog attack on sheep near Cornhill.

One sheep was injured and another sheep later died following the incident which is believed to have taken place about 3.30pm on Wednesday, March 7, in a field near the village.

PC Zoe Smart from the Banff community policing team said: "I would urge anyone who was in the area on Wednesday of last week including all dog owners and those exercising dogs, to come forward with any information they may have regarding this incident.

"One animal has died and another injured. It is highly likely that any dog responsible would have had blood around its mouth or on its coat.

"It’s important that dog owners recognise the devastating consequences of a dog attacking, chasing or even being at large in a field where sheep are kept.

"When enjoying the countryside, especially if there’s sheep or lambs around, dogs are recommended to be kept on a lead or at the very minimum, under close control.

"If you know anything about this incident, please call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1733 of March 8 or if you want to remain anonymous, please call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
