AS 2006 draws to a close, we have seen that the Parliament has been a flurry of activity, with more than 15 Bills becoming law, along with the many debates and question-times that have taken place since the turn of the year.

THIS week I had the pleasure of congratulating community activists in New Deer as they won the Calor Scottish Community of the Year Award, when I attended the ceremony which was held in Edinburgh.

THIS last week was a busy time for me, both on constituency business and at Westminster, when among other things, I held meetings with the chief executives of Aberdeenshire Council and NFU Scotland, and have been involved in tabling a very important amendment to the Queen's Speech.

LAST week at Westminster, the Scottish National Party and Plaid Cymru called for a select committee to be appointed to review the way the Government discharged its responsibilities in relation to Iraq – both in the period leading up to military action, and in its aftermath.

IN THE Scottish Parliament this week, we saw the ethos of the people's Parliament being met as hundreds of physiotherapy students and graduates made the trek to Edinburgh to lobby their MSPs.

LAST week, once I had finished with my surgeries I headed down to Perth to take part in my party's annual conference, and I must say I was heartened to observe that the national Press was full of articles stating that the SNP were on the brink of Government.

AT a time when the opinion polls are all showing a huge upsurge in support for the SNP, and party activists are enthusiastically gearing up for our forthcoming National Conference at Perth, we have all been saddened by the recent death of former SNP MP and deputy leader, Douglas Henderson, following a short illness.

MACDUFF was very much the centre of attention a week past Sunday, when I was delighted to open both the Scottish Federation of Model Boat Clubs’ regatta at Tarlair swimming pool, and the Banffshire Maritime Exhibition at 6-8 Duff Street, on the same day.
