THE tale of a heroic Banff bobby who helped nobble Nazi spies trying to sneak into Scotland has resurfaced after recently recovered ceramics belonging to William Gladstone were found to be wrapped in a newspaper of the time detailing his remarkable story. More than 80 items kept in storage during the First and Second World Wars, owned by the former Prime Minister, fetched more than £30,000 last week when they were sold at Bonham’s in Edinburgh.
