LOUISE McKENZIE from Ordiquhill Primary took the gold medal when schools from across the area took part in a badminton tournament.

Banff Primary's Aaron Golias achieved second place, while Finlay Burkinshaw was third.

P7 pupils from Aberchirder, Banff, Bracoden, Fordyce, Ordiquhill, Portsoy, Macduff and Whitehills all took part in the contest at Banff Academy, which was organised by Active Schools, visiting PE specialists to the schools and supported by community sports leaders from the academy.

Susan Mackintosh, Active Schools co-ordinator, said: "The youngsters competed for an hour and a half and played a continuous 17 rounds of badminton.

"Fantastic sportsmanship was demonstrated by all schools throughout the event, with a play-off required to find a winner.

"The event also allowed for peer interaction with children from other schools."
