AN ARCHER from Portknockie has been named junior sportswoman of the year at the 12th annual sportMoray recognition awards.
Amy Wakefield was among those honoured at the Elgin Town Hall event. Others whose dedication was rewarded included a teacher from Buckie High School.
She only entered her first archery competition in 2010, but has risen rapidly through the ranks of the sport and won the UK National Clout Championships. Clout archery is aiming at a flag set in the ground, with points awarded according to how close the arrows finish to the target.
Amy is also the Scottish Junior Ladies' Clout Champion and record holder, while she has also captured the Scottish Under-16 Ladies' Championship (compound bow).
Meanwhile, Buckie High teacher Ray Aiken collected the local service to sport award, sponsored by the Scottish Association of Sports Councils.
He has trained a multitude of young athletes in extra-curricular activities over more than 20 years.
"Ray's dedication and enthusiasm at all weekly training sessions, in all weathers, over the 20 years, shows how committed an individual he is," compere Alistair Farquhar told the town hall audience.
