DEVERONSIDE, back in action after a two-week break due to the weather, enjoyed a comfortable 4-2 derby victory over Islavale on Saturday.

They opened the scoring in the second minute when Gavin Murdo hurled in a long throw to the near post which came off the head of the unfortunate Mckay before looping over keeper Moir's head.

Islavale tried to hit back when Cowie crossed for Blackhall who screwed his header well wide of Tait's goal.

A minute later, the play swept to the other end and Philip sliced his shot well wide when well placed.

Islavale equalised against the run of play when Tait's clearance was charged down by Blackhall, who had the easy task of placing the ball into the empty net.

Smith then came close to putting Deveronside ahead but he saw his header just clear the crossbar.

Milne set up Mcleay, who saw his 10-yard shot saved brilliantly by Moir low down to his right.

Gavin Murdo then swung over a great cross to the back post where it was met by Mcleay who headed over from almost underneath the crossbar.

Islavale then took an undeserved lead when Shand was adjudged to have been brought down in the box, and Cowie sent Tait the wrong way.

Milne then made a lung bursting run from the halfway line before Stewart appeared from nowhere to put in a great block to deny the midfielder the equaliser.

However, it was only delayed by a few minutes when, following a goalmouth scramble, Gavin Murdo was on hand to slam the ball into the net.

Deveronside went ahead again when Philip made a surging run into the box and was brought down by Morrison who was shown a straight red card as last man, and Smith smashed home the penalty past Moir.

Islavale were then reduced to nine men when Mckay was ordered off for his second yellow card for a foul on Milne.

Deveronside made the game safe when the ball was played into the near post where Smith rose highest to bullet his header past Moir.

The match ended with Deveronside well on top and the only surprise was that they didn't add to their lead.

Deveronside are back at Canal Park on Saturday when they play host to Bridge of Don Thistle in the Pmac group First Division, kick-off 2pm.

Deveronside: Tait, G. Murdo, King, Kinghorn, Legge, W. Murdo, Philip, Mcleay, Smith, Milne, Davidson. Subs: Thompson, Lobban, Sopel, Blackhall, Stewart.
