Special Constable Hugh Duncan was surprised to hear that he had been awarded the Queen's Police Medal in the New Year's Honours list.

A TURRIFF farmer who has been a Special Constable for 44 years is to receive the Queen's Police Medal.

Hugh Duncan (65) said it was a complete surprise when he was told that he was to be awarded the medal, and he felt "very honoured".

Mr Duncan thoroughly enjoys his role as a 'Special', and has no plans to give it up.

"What attracted me to becoming one was getting out among the public, meeting people, and the different characters you come across," he said.
