COAST Festival organisers are giving people the chance to make their mark on the event in a massed flag installation which will be created at Banff Castle.

More than 200 blank flags will be provided to groups who will be able to create their own designs on them.

The challenge is for each group to reflect the festival’s theme this year, ‘the creative individual’, and create a design that represents them.

Event volunteer Carla Angus said: "Each flag design should represent you, your family or your group.

"We wanted to let as many people as possible get involved in the festival this year, as the theme is the creative individual.

"We are providing more than 200 blank flags that groups of people can get together and decorate."

Once the designs are finished, they will be fixed to a forest of bamboo canes with the help of Banff shop Trend DIY.

Also 20 giant flags are being decorated by the group involved in the umbrella project in 2011.

An evening workshop is being organised for adults on Friday, May 18, and will be inspired by the atmospheric forests of flags often seen at international music festivals. The Coast committee hope that they can become a fixture and a collection, growing each year.

Mrs Angus added: "I can’t wait to see all the flags – there is usually no shortage of breeze off the sea."
