SALMON anglers have expressed anger and dismay at the news of a netting operation being resumed at Aberdour between Gardenstown and Rosehearty.
They fear that it could undo extensive work carried out in recent years to protect and boost fishing stocks in the Deveron and other North-east rivers.
Montrose-based Usan Fisheries recently bought up the rights to the mixed stock fishery at Aberdour which had not been exercised for 20 years. The company is also starting netting again near Thurso in Caithness.
Members of three generations of the Pullar family, which run Usan, began netting at Aberdour last week - re-igniting a long-standing division between Scotland’s netters and the country’s salmon angling fraternity.
