100 Years Ago - Banff cycling accident - A post office worker was seriously injured in a cycling accident. Mr A. R. Ross had turned into the entrance at Duff House grounds and at the entrance met two lady cyclists. In order to avoid them he swerved his bicycle to the left but the speed at which he was descending the decline was such that he lost control and crashed with great force into the lower wall adjoining the gateway. The impact was so severe that the front forks of the bicycle were destroyed and Mr Ross hit the wall violently, sustaining considerable injury on his head and face. His head, nose, left cheek and chin were badly lacerated, and Dr Stephen treated his injuries.

Warships in Banff - The passage west of several warships was observed from Banff last week. At midnight on Thursday, three torpedo destroyers steamed along the firth. In the afternoon the following day, a cruiser, two torpedo destroyers, and six submarines were seen. The presence of these vessels in northern waters, en route for Invergordon or Kirkwall, will be frequent for some weeks to come, as vessels of the various fleets assemble yearly at these centres to take part in naval manoeuvre exercises.
