EFFORTS TO coax a dolphin back out to sea after it became stranded in Buckie Harbour have failed.

The dolphin was spotted in the harbour earlier today and the Scottish Dolphin Centre at Spey Bay was called in.

Staff from the Whale and Dolphin centre at Spey Bay were in attendance along with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

However, the white-beaked dolphin later died and was hoisted out of the water this afternoon.

Buckie Harbour had provided updates during the day. The white-beaked dolphin normally sticks to much colder waters and stay much further to the North.  It is not common for them to show on our coastline.

A kayak borrowed from Cullen Sea School had been used to try and entice the creature back out to sea.
