Killer dies in prison

KILLER Graeme Harper from Macduff died in Perth prison on Saturday. The Scottish Prison Service announced his death on Monday. No further details were given, and next of kin have been informed. A fatal accident inquiry is to be held. The 40-year-old was serving eight years for the culpable homicide of Banff man Paul Chalmers after an argument in a flat in Banff's Gallowhill Street in June, 2004. Harper pleaded guilty to stabbing Mr Chalmers after breaking into his flat and assaulting him. Harper's victim bled to death after being stabbed in the buttock. Both men were involved in the local drug scene, and Chalmers was also going out with a former girlfriend of Harper.
